This book may surpass everything you have ever read about relieving pain at work. First Aid for Introverts in an Extroverted Workplace offers eighteen practical, effective solutions for relief, not the band-aids that usually address this topic for introverts. Award-winning introvert author Benjamin Plumb details how, during decades in business, he freed himself from the many discomforts of work environments designed for extroverts. With compelling stories, tools, and exercises, he provides a clear roadmap for you to do the same. In this book you will find how to: • Reduce the impact of interruptions to almost nothing • Start being heard when you speak • Repair and avoid personal conflicts • Start having more alone time • Stop having a stressful schedule • Start having time to recharge • Stop having to rush all day • Stop listening to off-topic, boring talk In addition, you will learn how to stop enduring small talk, working on teams, going to lots of meetings, dealing with risky situations – and start relieving the pain of six other features of your job. This book will leave you not only wiser, but far more fulfilled as an introvert than you ever thought you could be.
Additional Info
Benjamin Plumb graduated from the Harvard Business School and was a US Army Intelligence officer in Vietnam. For forty years he suffered first-hand from the many sources of pain that introverts feel in an extroverted workplace. Then in his sixties he realized that being an introvert was an advantage at work, not a defect. That insight helped him to lean into his introversion, and during the last ten years of his career to escape permanently from all eighteen of the pain points described in this book. Ben and his wife Sandy of almost forty years live in the Tampa Bay area. The story of his life is told in the award-winning memoir, The Satisfied Introvert: A Memoir about Finding Safety in an Extroverted World.
