Masked Intent is an adult fable, narrated by Truth, who is discouraged by her recent romantic relationships. She believes that Influence has ruined humans’ ability and willingness to be authentic – especially when it comes to love and illustrates her point by recounting the story of Alexa Winston, a divorced working mother, and Mateo Da Rocha, a younger, VERY single college professor. As their relationship intensifies, so, too, do external pressures and several loose ends that need attention. These sub-plots offer vital clues to the things that keep Alexa and Mateo from entrusting that their connection is more than superficial. Together, they must face a cocktail of situations that forces them to weigh their personal truths against reality before they can find contentment in each other. The novel unfolds in five “acts,” each of which begins with commentary by Truth, who, with her sisters, Honesty and Accountability, observes the action between Alexa, Mateo, and other notable characters. The commentary serves to summarize, teach, and, at times, foreshadow the various threads of the plot line. Masked Intent is the first installment in The Morality Plays Series.
