Shirley McLain created this fiction story guide for parents and tweens of 10 years and above who deal with bullying. You and your tweens (teens and up) will enjoy the beautiful illustrations by Cristina Bello. Main character Thomas Gomel struggles to get out of bed. The thought of the new year brings up emotions hidden from everyone, including his mother. Thomas has to go to the school, and his story is told in chapters 1-18. In Chapter 19, Shirley McLain shares her own memories of being physiologically bullied at school, almost every day. From Chapter 20 to the end, Shirley educates her readers. She explains what bullying is and describes the various types of bullying that school children of all ages can endure. She shows what the data shows and the warning signs that parents, grand-parents and educators need to look out for. She ends the book with some reference and help-line resources. Shirley wrote this book in hopes to raise awareness of bullying, prevent bullying, and get help for those experiencing bullying. I encourage teens and adults to read this book.
